Autostrade and Archaeology
The completion of the works on the second section (Morgex to Entreves) of the A5 Aosta to the Mont Blanc Tunnel motorway, inaugurated on December 4th, 2006, is a significant example of the commitment of both Autostrade per l’Italia, and its subsidiaries in the Valle d’Aosta region and represents the completion of the programme for extending the region’s motorway network.
The works also entailed the use of cutting-edge techniques and the construction of a complex network of technological systems aiming to ensure both maximum safety and the best possible driving comfort.
Adapting to the lay of the land and not interfering with the economic activities and built-up areas also required an enormous effort by the design team, in coordination with the motorway operator. The section has been opened to the traffic on March 7th 2007.
The ceremony of Courmayeur has represented the third stage of the program “Cantieri Aperti”, through which Autostrade per l’Italia is offering to supply all stakeholders with up-to-date information about new works, and the financial expenditure. Autostrade per l’Italia and the controllated companies are engaged at a national level in investments for approximately 11 billions euros, which will make the Group the first private investor in Italy.
“Cantieri Aperti” concerns 8 regions: Lazio, Lombardy, Valle d’Aosta, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Campania and Liguria.
